ETM is a New York City non-profit organization that provides inner-city schools with quality music programs. ETM forms long-term partnerships with both public and private schools, helping them to provide comprehensive, sequential music and arts instruction to all students. We help schools integrate arts and academic curricula to enhance learning in both areas.
Job responsibilities include:
- Teaching provided lesson plans based on ETM's curriculum and benchmarks
- Managing student behavior and ensuring a safe and structured classroom environment
- ETM provides a variety of tools and resources including hand-percussion, Orff instruments, handbells, keyboards, recorders, guitars and technology
Substitute Teacher Scheduling
A substitute teaches General Music for grades Pre-K through 8th grade in both NYC public and parochial schools. Our program runs for the entire school year from September to June. Class sizes average from 20 to 25 students. Daily teaching schedules follow a typical school day beginning at approximately 8:00 am and ending near 3:00 pm.
Employment is on an as needed, on-call, day-to-day basis and not guaranteed work on a regular basis. Payment is on a per-diem basis. Teacher receives training as a part of new teacher orientation and may be invited to ongoing professional development and training sessions.
Reserve Teacher Scheduling
A reserve teaches General Music for grades Pre-K through 8th grade in both NYC public and parochial schools. Our program runs for the entire school year from September to June. Class sizes average from 20 to 25 students. Daily teaching schedules follow a typical school day beginning at approximately 8:00 am and ending near 3:00 pm.
Reserve teachers may be assigned to co-teach or cover a temporary vacancy and can be 3-5 days per week. Teachers assigned 4-5 days per week are eligible for company benefits and PTO time. Salary for reserves are per pay period.
Full-time transition opportunities
The teacher will have the opportunity to apply for regular teaching assignments if/when they become available. ETM offers a competitive compensation package including paid sick leave, tuition reimbursement and health insurance (employee contributed) to teachers with regular teaching assignments or 4 or more days per week.
- Applicants should possess a BA or Master's in Music, Education, or Fine Arts (Music Education a plus).
- Previous classroom teaching experience is strongly preferred.
- Singing, conducting, keyboard, guitar, orchestra, band and presentation skills are all pluses.
- NYS Teaching certification is a PLUS
NOTE: Individuals who do not currently hold 'eligible' status for classroom teaching from the NYC Department of Education (DOE) will be asked to undergo a fingerprinting and background check by the NYC DOE PETS system. Only those cleared by the DOE who receive 'eligible' status are eligible for hire by ETM.
